Asus Zenbook 14: Ryzen 4000 Ultrabook with economical display

Taiwanese manufacturer Asus has introduced the Zenbook 14 (UM425IA), which is a 14-inch notebook with Ryzen Renoir. The version with an economical display is supposed to offer up to 22 hours battery life at 150 nits.

With Intel Lakefield and Project Athena, Intel is making great efforts to ensure a long battery life for notebooks. AMD itself already offers very efficient CPUs. In the new Asus Zenbook 14 (UM425IA), up to 22 hours should even be possible without having to go to a power outlet. This long battery life is supposed to be made possible by the Ryzen Renoir on the one hand and a 1 watt display on the other, the manufacturer promises.

Asus promises up to 22 hours battery life.

The 14 inch notebook measures 319 x 210 x 14.3 mm and weighs 1.13 kilograms. The non-reflective Full-HD display is supposed to be bright up to 400 nits. Alternatively, the Zenbook 14 is also available with a display with Full HD brightness of only 250 nits and higher power consumption. In addition, the version with a standard screen is minimally heavier at 1.22 kilograms. The Zenbook 14 has two USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports with display port and power delivery for charging.

In addition, an HDMI 2.0b, a USB-A port with five gbit/s and a MicroSD card reader are also available. A jack port has to be omitted; Asus includes a USB-C to 3.5 mm jack adapter in some models for this purpose. The keyboard is slightly raised when opening the notebook, so that the ergonomics should improve. An illuminated number pad is integrated in the touchpad. The Ryzen 5 4500U or the Ryzen 7 4700U can be used as processor.

Depending on the laptop listed at laptopsunder30000, either eight GiByte or 16 GiByte LPDDR4-3733 memory is available as main memory. The built-in NVMe SSD can hold between 256 Gigabytes and up to one Terabyte depending on the model and is connected via PCI-Express Gen3 x2. The battery measures 67 watt hours and should be rechargeable to 60 percent in a good hour. Asus is still silent about prices; the Zenbook 14 (UM425IA) is supposed to be released in July.
